Re: Janet's plans for Christmas Eve.

My daughter and her two daughters, husbands and the two great grandkids are coming over. They wanted to do a gathering and couldn't do it at the kids' house cause daddy is putting toys together so, I'm glad we're having a Christmas Eve gathering right here.

I'm ready for them to get here.

This photo was taken 11-14-09 at the Reunion Show in Arlington.

In June of 1979 Johnnie put me on The Grapevine Opry Show which was the engine that brought me back to the stage after I stepped down in 1973. I give this man so much credit for my career from that day until now.

He certainly is a mentor to me.

Re: Twelve year old Jonathan Stickler.

I will send you an email with [Jonathan Stickler's] singing Santa's Yodeling Song which is so good. He is 12 and has been performing with little Lydia Epps so he is learning from smosis (you can hear and/or download that mp3 by clicking the little speaker icon above).

I am thrilled with that young man to be a part of my 'kids'. He's good.

Re: From Janet to Jonathan's mother.

I am thrilled to find a new young 'boy' who wants to yodel even if just a little. Not everyone wants to take yodeling to that place of Lydia but it is yodeling just the same and if done well, it will take his performances to another level every time. Bottom line it sounds like he is a performer who wants to gather all of the audience 'to his show or showcase' large or small. He likes to be 'on' and that's the key.

This song was written by a gal in Nebraska who really hadn't done much yodeling in her career but wrote the song around the little yodeling she knew how to do.

It is perfect for him if he wants a song that will fit a male and fit a youngster.

Re: to Janet from Jonathan's mother.

Wow you are speedy! and certainly consider yourself "needed" and an inspiration. Jonathan was so excited when he found out that I had heard from the lady who wrote Santa's Yodeling Song, the queen of yodeling, and was thrilled to get some guidance from you on good songs to learn.

Jonathan also asked if he could record his version of Santa's Yodeling for you.(I've attached it, it's not a professional recording by any means) He would love it if you had any tips. onathan would love to get a chance to work with you personally someday.

My younger son plays the keyboard, so once we get some of the other details worked out perhaps he'll be able to play for his brother!

Thanks for your time and information!

Re: Janet's Thanksgiving.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. Nearly all of the kids, grandkids and great grandkids were there and just a good day of Family.

There was a family of 5 who came (not related) but they had a tragic accident happen this year that took their baby boy and they just needed to go someplace else so they came to dinner.

We were at one of my son's home and these people were friends of my grand daughter. They blended right in so all was well.

Re: a response to her webmaster's question as to how she will spend Thanksgiving.

On the Thanksgiving meal: I will cook the turkey and dressing, the sweet potatoes and will help mix the fruit salad. We will go to son Mark's home for the gathering but I will cook my portions here. John and I always want to prepare the turkey and the dressing cause we know we'll like ours. ha

THANK YOU ALL FOR VOTING FOR ME! You are the reason I won.
Love,

Re: a response to her webmaster's question as to how she will spend Halloween this year.

I'm going to Trick or Treat with the Great Grand Kids who live nearby. Several adults will gather at their home along with their two grandmothers, John and I. Snacks early then we walk the two or three streets close before I bail and come in the house.

I went all the way to another town today to find candy corn and candy pumpkins. My favorites and our Wal-Mart was sold out of them. Man O Man. It isn't Halloween without corn and pumpkins.

To All Buckaroos and families,

I know some of you never had the pleasure of knowing Kacey Musgraves personally and were not a part of the Buckaroos when she was involved with our program (from age 11 in 1998), but I wanted to share her good news with you all.

Kacey Musgraves lived in Mineola TX and came to Buckaroos at first to learn to yodel. She joined up with Alina Tatum for a while and they did some good stuff together such as singing for Pres. Bush's Inaugural Ball before becoming a single act and singing on Good Morning America at the Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT.

Kacey took some guitar lessons to perfect her playing and also began writing songs.

I got the news last night (from her Grandmother) that on Thursday, 9-25-09, Kacey signed with the Nashville publishing company Warner-Chappell. As we have already mentioned in an earlier email, she has a song on hold with a female artist who is a major recording artist and it could be on her next CD.

So for now Kacey Musgraves, our young Buckaroo friend has begun making strides in the world of music. There will probably be a 'recording contract signed soon' and we'll keep you posted on that.

CONGRATULATIONS KACEY.

Love y'all,

Janet and Devon [Dawson]

The awards show was very very good. The yodeler was our own young friend Carin Marie Lechner who we met through the WMA and who came to The Patsy Montana Days and she won the championship for yodeling in 2004.

I did mentor this young gal but so did my friend Jeanne Martin who brought her to my attention. She attended our 'yodel camp' in Pineville MO and from that visit she added many many new yodel songs to her shows.

She is a great little gal and is now doing her shows with her 'family band'.

DEVON DAWSON won Female Entertainer Western Music.

Re: Jeanne Cahill and her work producing a DVD to honor Janet at the Gene Autry Museum Lifetime Achievement Award Ceremony September 26, 2009.

She actually is a 'special' lady. Yes, she is going above and beyond on this DVD thingy.

I am one lucky lady that she is available to do this because so few have the abilities she does. She'll nail it. I know she 'has it'.

September 14, 2009

Re: The Gene Autry Museum DVD project in general.

They [people related to the Gene Autry Museum in Oklahoma] pretty much told me [about the DVD presentation] a long time ago but then it got bigger as time went on and they started gathering the information for the DVD.

I started sending info, bio, photos and it was like a 'dam' broke. Seriously, most people in the world have no clue that my past history as a performer. The real treat here is that I have so many great photos that help them tell the story.

It went really well. I felt soooooooooo good singing this time. On my stool, just doing my best and it seemed to work.

I am excited to be going to The Lubbock Cowboy Symposium because it is the first COWBOY MUSIC Festival we have been to since March 2008.

We always enjoy our time in Lubbock because we meet Janet McBride Fans there who are not able to go to any other place we perform.

Re: LeAnn Rimes.

My being her 'mentor' is by far the best thing that happened for my career. And with her success, I was able to go down this path of mentoring that I never would have taken.

August 24, 2009

Janet dug out some of her historic Country Music Reporter Magazine issues and sent us a couple of photos regarding the Longhorn Ballroom, along with some brief comments. Clicking the pictures will bring up bigger versions. Originally the pics were smaller, but we Photoshopped them to be larger and crisper in view.

This sign was 'huge'. It was outside at the entrance of the Longhorn Ballroom for years.

I'm sure this is why I kept this magazine all these years.

The above graphic was digitally enlarged with Photoshop. Janet told me her story regarding these DJs over several Emails, and I simply joined their content together here.

In my stories I mention 'The Squeekin' Deacon, Biff Collie and Lee Ross and found this photo for the radio station with them all in there.

Squeekin' Deacon used to play my records from day one. The Deacon as we all called him had a Sunday Morning Show where the first hour was amateurs and second hour was his professional friends and he had many. I was first on his shows beginning in 1947 with sis and bro Dan. We did that for as long as we could. After I started recording I was on his 'professional' part of his show until I left LA area in 1965.

Lee Ross was a DJ and played my music often. He wrote the words I recorded to 'Your Nights In Charlie's Shoes'. Biff Collie remained a fan and friend and he played my records from the start in 1960. He moved to Nashville and had a very successful business on radio and articles in country music magazines. I'd be in his articles often. He's the DJ who sent me that great photo of me in the polka dot dress. He knew he was dying and his note to me said 'I want you to have this photo'. Special DJ for sure.

Charlie Williams, Hugh Cherry, Dick Schofield also was the station manager and when he sub'd as a DJ, he played my songs.

Cliffie Stone wasn't a DJ in my era but it was Cliffie Stone's TV Show Hometown Jamboree where I won the Housewife Talent Contest in 1955 and won a house full of furniture.

I personally knew everyone on this page and they knew me. They were very nice to me and my music.

I was treated very special for sure. I think they all knew I had a day job and still was trying to sing on weekends and put out good records. Of course, the record company I recorded for was owned by the Midnight to Morning DJ when I signed up with Toppa Records in 1960.

August 11, 2009

Janet has been gathering a lot of historic photos lately, and sending some to her webmaster. A lady associated with the Gene Autry Museum is requesting them. Here is Janet's brief explanation.

She is putting together a DVD presentation for the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' presentation that will be made on Sept. 26th in Gene Autry, Okla.

There will be a narrator speaking on the DVD while the photos flash on the screen. I gathered a lot a while back and took them to her in hard copy but I think after she got started on the 'life story' she found lots more about me than she knew. She asked for several specific photos yesterday which I went ahead and sent her.

July 20, 2009

Janet's friend Karla M. sent an Email with a link to this Tennessee Ernie Ford video. Janet forwarded it with her own comments.

I know we're all busy but you will LOVE this especially if you were a fan of Tennessee Ernie Ford as I was.

I was a fan of 'old Ern' from the first day I heard him singing bass behind the songs he played 'AS A DJ' over a country radio station in the Los Angeles Area. I believe the studios were in Pasadena CA.

Ernie was totally unknown to the public in those days. We are talking the 1950's. What a voice.

Here is what Karla wrote:

For those of you who remember this great voice (and for those who don't, but would like to hear it) I submit to you Mr. Tennessee Ernie Ford, and his son Brian, performing on television back in the 50's.  Brian really gets with it, and almost breaks up his Dad.  This is priceless....

Re: responding to Ms. Downing's request for assistance in recording a couple of Janet's songs.

Laura Downing from Australia recorded my song Yodelers Dream many years ago and did a wonderful job on it. I have emailed her back to see what she needs and will try to help.

I had lost contact with her some time back. She's a keeper.

She is well thought of over there I am sure. I can relate to what she said about raising the kids. From 1973 to 1979 I did just that myself.

On Saturday we will be at Gene Autry, Oklahoma by 10am for the 'youth auditions' till noon. The full day at G.A. will be a 'benefit to raise money for the museum's expenses'.

You can go to a website for Ms. Downing by clicking her picture above.

Re: Taylor Ware yodeling in a national TV commercial.

If you watch the TV and the Contented Cows Come From California come on, watch closely. One Cow ends up on a mountain and she says something about 'I'm goinging to sing' and then she YODELS. It is Taylor Ware.

I confirmed it with her mother.

June 16, 2009

We're chillin.

The [Seagoville] senior center went 'very well'. It felt good.

June 9, 2009

Janet wrote the following to her Buckaroos upon returning home from Pinevile.

I would like to let you all know that McKenna Crabtree and her parents drove up to Pineville, Missouri last weekend and attended the Janet McBride Yodel Camp on Friday and the Patsy Montana International Yodeling Competition on Saturday.

Miss McKenna won the Silver Medal/Second Place in the contest. McKenna did a great job and we can all be proud of her.

June 8, 2009

These were Janet's words to her webmaster immediately upon returning home from Pineville, Missouri and starting up her computer.

Yodel Camp went well, good weather etc. Photo's will be ready soon. Cedar was great also. Good weather and good friends. Pat's house was all rest and we just had a wonderful trip.

Re: another response to the song "Mama."

I sent the link [to "Mama" on MySpace] to a friend girl from WMA cause I wanted her to hear it and know about it when the Awards Nominations Come up for 2010. I want as many as I can get to listen to the song. So many never hear stuff because of no radio play anymore so I kinda nudged her to listen.

About 10 minutes or so after I sent the link I got a phone call here at home. It was Marilyn Tuttle from Calif/old singing star from So. Cal in my teen age years. Her husband was Wesley Tuttle now deceased but they were it when I was young.

Anyway, she got a call from my friend girl who played it over the phone for her and they both cried but she LOVED it and says it is a hit and added, "how can we get it heard by someone really big?"

Of course she made my night but I have started thinking and emailing the few people I know who have an in with big stars. She asked for a few copies to mail to the people she thinks can help.

I mailed them today to her.

After this email, Janet was on tour and the next time I heard from her was in June.

May 12, 2009

Re: when the song "Mama" was first put on MySpace, it didn't play for a few days. Here is Janet's response to my announcement that it had started working, and to my admitting that a few tears were shed over the song.

Fantastic! It is just such a good song and yes, sad but when you think about it, some tears are good tears and when you remember 'Mama' those are good tears.

Glad that it is up and working.

May 9, 2009

Re: Phil York.

I hope we hear more/or get some hits on the site from this song ["Mama"]. If one person did it, there will be more. It is a powerful song and yes, it was also Phil who said, get it out for Mothers Day and he was right.

He's been doing this recording stuff for as long as I have been in Texas. He worked with Art [Greenhaw] on the Grammy recordings Art did and he worked with Willie Nelson on the Red Headed Stranger Album which won all kinds of awards.

He is by far the best in the nation on digital work for sure.

May 9, 2009

Re: label of the single CD "Mama."

Phil York did the label. It was with his urging that we made it a single and he took on the chore of designing the label.

He scanned a very old cover of a piece of piano music. He had quite a collection of old sheet music stuff and chose that one. Phil loves the song and he got the best out of all of us on the session.

May 9, 2009

Re: initial reaction to "Mama."

I had a person come on myspace this morning saying they heard my Mama song [on the radio] and loved it.

I am trying to find out what station she heard it played on.

I mailed out about 50 copies to DJ's I knew and felt like they might play it. It was sent as a single for Mothers Day airplay.

May 7, 2009

Re: waiting for the CD and getting ready to mail the pre-orders.

We've been patiently waiting for the CD. I checked with the place and the young fella told me it is in progress so, yeaaaaaa.

I'm working on the mailing envelopes so that I can package the CD immediately. Most important for sure.

May 4, 2009

Re: release of the new CD and single.

The CD is approved for pressing and should be here by the week of the 18th or somewhere in there. I'm so ready.

Some of the single 'Mama' was mailed Friday and today to the stations I am sure will play it. I know no one on the big stations except KFDI in Wichita, KS and he said he will play it.

Everyone who has heard it likes it.

May 4, 2009

As expected, some Buckaroos stayed home from their May 3rd get together due to the publicity about swine flu. Janet was positive and understanding as always.

Hello to all,

We knew that many of you would not be at Buckaroo's yesterday and we have no problem with that ever. We will take you every time you can make it no matter what.

It was a great day and a great group who were there.

May 1, 2009

At this time the swine flu breakout was upon us, and Fort Worth was prohibiting some gatherings for Sunday, May 3rd. Here is how Janet handled it.

Hello to all Buckaroo's and families,

Devon, Chuck, John and I will all be there as usual for the Buckaroo's unless you hear further from us.

I don't believe they will include the Stockyards as an area to avoid since it is an outside venue.

We'll see you there.

April 27, 2009

Re: responding to my comments on the song "Mama" and the fact that John has been encouraging her for years to finish that number.

I didn't know that song was going to turn out that good but John knew from the beginning and he didn't know the direction it would take at that time.

April 26, 2009

Re: responding to my comments on the CD, after first listen, and to my choices for songs to be included on this website.

Yes, John can be heard on harmonica on Prairie schooner and I Won't Have To Cross Jordan.

Phil (Mr.) York is a genius. Yes, I tried to pick three songs [from older masters] that could hold up with what is on the CD. I think you liked some of the best.

I could only have hoped that the CD would turn out so well. Give the credit to Phil York and his work. We all worked hard but he did the most work.

Re: thanking the Buckaroos.

Hello to all Buckaroos,

Thank you all so very much for the wonderful HAPPY BIRTHDAY PARTY we shared on April 5th which just happened to be my birthday and Buckaroo's day too. It was great and thank you again.

We have moved Buckaroo's Sunday to May 3rd because our usual second Sunday in May always falls on MOTHERS DAY and we want all of your Moms and Grandmothers to be able to enjoy their special day.

Re: offering help to the Patsy Montana Yodeling Festival contestants.

For all of you who have ever thought you'd like to go to Missouri for a weekend of just plain fun.

If you are thinking of going and entering the Patsy yodeling contest, I'll help you find the 'original' version of Patsy Montana doing 'I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart'. If you want to be in the running to win the contest, you pretty much need to do that version.

April 22, 2009

Re: CD Baby.

I signed up for CD Baby finally. I have listed our website on each of the three CD's that I sent in. My new one of course isn't ready.

I mailed the CD's this afternoon. They should have them for sale soon.

You can go to Janet's CD Baby page by clicking the photo immediately above.

April 18, 2009

Re: the CD is complete!

Our trip to the studio was terrible. Bad rain and traffic downtown but we arrived on time and all went well. We cleared up one little blip in "I Won't Have To Cross Jordan Alone" and a few other little things yesterday and we were back in town by 3:30pm.

My grandaughter took my copy with her for her trip to Walmart and came back loving it plus she was so happy that we pulled out from the old files and added "I Just Hate To Hear A Grown Man Lie." She loves that song she said. The whole CD is nearly an hour of music.

LeAnn had a blurb in the paper this AM. She is singing the National Anthem at the KY Derby May 5.

April 18, 2009

Responding to my question re: the new CD's name.

We're still thinking buttttttttt, we are leaning towards the title being "I've Had A Great Ride" and the photo will be restored some but we'll use the photo of me at about one year old sitting in a toy fire truck.

What do you think?

My answer to Janet's question was that her title sounded too final, like she would never make another CD again. She followed up with:

How about "Still Loving The Ride?"

This was one of the proudest moments in my website career. Seldom, if ever, had I an opportunity to help create a customer's work of art. Thank you, Janet!

April 17, 2009

Re: finishing the CD.

Went to studio again yesterday/three days working late over there and today should be the last. We go again at 1pm and will work on the music tracks transfer to CD for me.

That is all we are going for. I HAVE the finished product and we now will have to go to the production place CD guys for pressing.

We're busy and have not been able to do normal activities but it is a wonderful CD for an 'old gal'.

April 16, 2009

Re: the passing of Julia Jenkins.

This was a dear lady and supporter of the Mesquite Opry.

We will try to go. Thanks for sending it on.

Below is the brief Email we received re: Ms. Jenkins.

Janet,

Just wanted to let you know that Julia Jenkins passed away last Fri. April 10.

Her funeral will be at Eubanks Funeral Home in Canton Sat. at 10 PM. and visitation will be Fri at 7pm.

April 12, 2009 - Easter Sunday!

Re: Easter Morning, flu recovery, and CD news.

Yes, we're cozy here this morning. For church we watched Saddleback from California with Rick Warren.

John is better and that is wonderful and a blessing. He actually has gotten up out of his chair a lot more and acts like he is up to a walk at Walmart or wherever.

We will go Tuesday for the mastering of the CD. I really can't wait. Jamie Shipman and Dave Tanner sang soooooooo good. They sang for 5 hours so you can tell from that amount of time singing constantly, this is going to be a full sound CD.

Yesssssss.

Our Sunday is 'hamburgers' for whoever comes. My daughter and husband are cooking the stuff here at the house and will be here soon.

Happy Easter.

April 7, 2009

Today was session day with me doing two songs 'over' and Jamie Shipman and Dave Tanner doing back-up vocals since 1pm. We just got home.

I am very happy with what is done. We're going back on Tuesday at noon and Phil [York] feels like we will finish on Tuesday.

I'm much more excited than I was when we did the 29th. I really didn't feel all that well then. But we're close now and tired. Thanks for missing me.

On the Awards show LeAnn did good and looked great. Very great honor.

April 5, 2009 - Janet's Birthday!

Re: birthday wishes and more recording news.

Thank you so much and I will tape the awards program [the ACMA Awards program in which LeAnn Rimes receives the 'ACM/Home Depot Humanitarian Award'].

I did notice that it was my B-day and that I was giving it to the Buckaroo's but it just worked out that way. Really not a big problem. I've been taken to dinner Friday evening, Saturday and another scheduled for Monday Evening so, maybe I did the right thing.

They usually all take me at the same time or I go to someone's house but this time it is 'PARTY time three days in a row. Funny huh. Thanks for remembering.

I go Tuesday at noon to try again for the song that is left to do in the session and to 'fix' a place or two. Jamie Shipman and a fella named 'Dave Tanner' will come do 'back-up' and then we should be over with the session parts. Then comes the mixing and stuff and then we order the CD. We'll see what happens Tuesday. I think it will be a go.

March 30, 2009

On one of the last recording sessions for Janet's new CD:

The fiddle player and steel player will be there adding their tracks and I will go to see what I sound like on the last song.

We're going to move along now as steady as we can and see if we can finish it up without dragging it out any further than neccessary.

It just all takes time.

March 30, 2009

On Lifetime Achievement Award, recording session, and more:

I WILL BE RECEIVING A 'LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD' with the presentation being September 26th at Gene Autry Oklahoma Museum. How about that????

The recording session went great for most of the time. Mama was first, then the Moon medely which went good also. After that I could feel some 'weakness in my voice' from the allergies that flared up with the cold front that blew in on Wed. afternoon. I had sniffles and sore throat from it and started doing all I could to make it go away. Well it didn't go away but by song 3 'One Day At A Time' I was struggling and by song 4 we just had to 'do the band track' but no matter. It is done and I will go in for my part when I am 'clear' of stuff. Mama is very good.

Anyway, we'll go back as soon as I can so that we can finish up with this thing. I had hoped that we could do as well as the first day but I also knew if would be a miracle if I made it all the way.

Got four girls coming this morning so I am trying to get stuff done so that I will give them my undivided attention.

March 20, 2009

On the lyrics of the song "Mama:"

It's not a true story in that sense but in a couple of places it was easy for me to write cause I had been there 'kinda'.

That song is like Wyoming Rose (which won Western Music Song of the Year in 2002). It is a story song and in Wyoming Rose, it was all make believe but it also was so true.

March 20, 2009

On composing "Mama" and some of the singers who visit with Janet:

Well, I've already changed a word or two to make the meter right but not anything major.

The tune and recitation seem to fit pretty good so, we're working on it like crazy now. I've turned in two dates to the studio. March 29 and April 19 so when I know, I'll let you know.

Got a girl coming this AM. Had four of them Monday wanting to sing harmony. What a hoot. I am not a teacher of harmony but I knew enough to tell them what they need to do so we'll see.

March 18, 2009

On Kacey Musgraves:

We had to attend a funeral down in Mineola today and we were able to stop by Kacey's family's business. They said Kacey is writing songs and working at her music career and that she is doing good and making some progress.

March 18, 2009

Here are more musings from Janet while producing her new CD, which was eventually titled "Still Loving The Ride."

Trying to find enough songs to do the rest of the recording session. I have pretty much finished 'Mama' by adding a little change that I think 'makes it'. Gotta work on tune but I will.

I may record 'Driftwood on the River' which is one of the songs you can actually hear me singing in the movie 'Hud'. That would be a great connection for that song. Might do When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again and New Moon Over My Shoulder as a medley, Might do One Day At A Time. Thinking outloud but trying to land on something so we can move on it.

March 9, 2009

What thoughts run through an artist's mind just before recording her newest CD? The following two Emails show some of what was going on inside Janet this time around.

Yes, there will be more visits to the studio before it [the new CD] is finished, but this one tomorrow will be a giant step to being 'on our way'. I'll be giving it all I have for sure.

I have a great attitude about it so I think I am way ahead of the last project. [With that one] I just never seemed to 'get it'. This one is already a better feeling and I haven't started yet.

I think I am ready.

Here is Janet's report after returning home from the session.

John was just great. He sat there and didn't say very much as that is what we told him to do. The engineer doesn't want anyone to do suggestions while he is deep in turning knobs. He's an expert for sure.

YESSSSSSSSSSSS. It was a great day. Junior Knight was there as were four other guys. I had worked with a couple of them before but not on sessions. They were all fine musicians and great guys.

My recording voice was strong and I didn't have any problems. I stood there and sang for 4 hours or more and all of the practice paid off. I was confident. I won't have much to change or do over on the session. It is so much better than the last record try/in my opinion.

I now have to finish 'Mama' to do it when I go back. We are looking at a couple of things we might do when we go back for recording.

I will forward a couple of photo's taken yesterday. They were not on my camera but the engineer's camera. It was a good day.

I go to studio on Sunday [March 9] at 2pm. Yeaaaah!

I think I am much stronger in voice from all of the practice. Yodel much better in my opinion and I am my worst critic. I will aim at the band at least getting the 5 songs down and of course I should be ready to do my own part in that time. Unless I get some voice bug, I think I can do it.

I am practicing right now and it seems good. I think we are going to plug John and harmonica in a time or two so that he will be on the recordings.

I will start looking for some old/other songs that I can do depending on how this all comes off.

We were a bit worn out from our day at Fort Worth and pretty much rested for two days but today I am feeling restored and singing.

Re: the Cowtown Opry Gala with Michael Martin Murphy March 2, 2009 (the previous day).

Hello to all who attended and those who could not attend for many different reasons. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

The Buckaroo's and families worked hard to perpare for their individual performances and it was great. We can't thank DEVON DAWSON and of course CHUCK [enough] for the effort on their part.

To all of the families who opened their homes for rehearsals we want you all to know THE WORK PAID OFF in the wonderful performances.

Congratulations to the Buckaroo's who were awarded CTO Scholarships for the past year of work. Noble Farr, Elijah Farr, Gabriella Webster and Gavon Webster are the recipients of the awards.

Thank you all again for all you did to make the Gala a Success.

Janet and Devon

March 2, 2009

Janet and John had their bout with "the bug" early in the season, and kept a positive and reasonably vigorous spirit throughout.

We are actually feeling better. It was Friday before either of us were enough better to notice. Today John actually said that he thinks it is over.

We went out for a meeting on Saturday at 1pm but then came home and rested some more. Sunday we left in the late afternoon to get milk then home again but we are both 'much' better.

Today we go to the Gala which was our only appointment. We will be over in F.W. most of the afternoon and evening but I will start home long before 'very late'. It is a fund raiser and we do need to gather in some bucks for CTO [Cowtown Opry] to run all of 2009.

I practiced some yesterday [for recording the new CD] and was happy with my voice. I did not overdo but did strum and yodel some.

Our feeling good is the best news from here.

Janet held a rehearsal at her home with the Buckaroos for thier Michael Martin Murphy concert. Here are her comments.

We had a great day and I had the camera out but didn't think about taking a photo. It was a lot of fun. Moms and kids everywhere. Devon [Dawson] is just a treat. So talented. She worked with the kids and we looked at photo's of Rex, Tex, Gene and Roy, had some lunch and just had a wonderful time.

I will have more kids [yodeling young people whom Janet mentors] coming regularly for the next few weeks.

They are improving so much. Janet

Below are Janet's words regarding her Feburary 8th gathering with the Buckaroos and other related events.

Buckaroo's went very well. Our day went something like this:

We left early enough (9:45) to go by John's favorite Mexican Restaurant in the F.W. area which opens at 11AM. That is the only way we can guarantee ourselves that we will not get hung up waiting for our food which would make us late for my early 'coaching' with a Buckaroo who lives on the other side of F.W. and who need some special time. This day it was 6 year old Megan Burnett who is learning Chime Bells which she performed at the show.

About 1:45 we started rehearsing the 17 children who were there for Buckaroo's. They ranged from 4 years thru 15 or so.

We finished the rehearsal and transferred the chairs and sound system out onto the steps of the Livestock Exchange Bldg (2:45) and The Buckaroo's each performed their song in front of the 'Tourists' who were taking in the sights of The Fort Worth Stockyards Area. We must be finished with the show before 4pm when the Longhorn Herd are driven down the main street of the stockyards area and nothing is allowed to happen while the herd is going past since this is one of the 'main attractions' for the public.

The Buckaroo's have several children in separate stages of learning to play the guitar, learning new 'western or cowboy' songs and also yodeling.

The Buckraoo program is/has been really rewarding for a lot of kids and for me too. Not in finances, but to see children actually gain confidence and make friends with other kids. I am constantly thanking the parents of these children for bringing their kids to the program for their 'once a month' meeting. I couldn't do this without their support. Not only do I give up at least one Sunday a month, so do they. It is a neat thing for all of us.

Devon Dawson and her husband Chuck were not there this weekend and that always gives me double duty as she is the program's co-producer.

We had a Cowtown Opry Association Board Meeting following the performance which was very short but still I am the secretary so we were there for that meeting.

The 'committee' for the CTO Gala (which will be March 2nd at 7:PM at Joe T. Garcia's Mexican Restaurant and stars Michael Martin Murphy for a 'cameo' appearance) also had a meeting but John and I are not on that committee so we started home and were able to make it through the Dallas Traffic by about 5:45 which was nice.

That was our full day. The Buckaroo's Day was great.
